Shifting power dynamics—internally and externally—have thrust corporate legal operations groups into the forefront of legal technology, process excellence, and innovation. These new leaders are modernizing the business of law by:

  • Adopting new technology (over 80% expect to increase spending on AI tools)
  • Streamlining old processes (over 70% are integrating enterprise systems)
  • Evolving cultural expectations (over 70% audit their lawyers’ technological competency)
  • Reducing third-party reliance (over 70% perform document review in-house)

For the past four years, OpenText has partnered with Ari Kaplan to uncover the key forces driving change in corporate legal ops and this year’s results include some surprising trends. Register here to join a live discussion on this year’s survey results, with highlights that include:

  • Organizational ecosystems: How large are ops teams? What departments do they interface with? How has their influence grown?
  • eDiscovery excellence: What tools are being used? What processes are moving in-house? How is success measured?
  • Technology plans: How widely is AI used? How is the cloud perceived? What are the integration strategies?
  • Security concerns: When are vendors and counsel audited? How are inside and outside threats being addressed?

Sheila Dusseau
Head of Legal Operations
Ferring Pharmaceuticals

Sheila has enjoyed a career in a variety of international organizations working in a rich mix of leadership roles that included finance, operations, processes, and technology. In these roles, she has been fortunate enough to be a part of organizations going through a multitude of changes from start-ups to global transformations, and has benefited from the challenging experiences those bring. Starting out in operational management for several small European companies, and then moving to a mix of finance and operations leadership positions in large global companies, such as Delta Air Lines and Georgia-Pacific, brought Sheila a wealth of diverse breadth of experiences that continue to influence how she leads and interacts with every level within an organization. For the last 10 years, she has spent her time in the Legal Operations world, where she has been able to employ all of this experience to help companies such as NCR Corporation and Ferring Pharmaceuticals manage their legal operations and support executive guidance around this important aspect of the business. When not working, Sheila enjoys spending time with her very active family, including her husband, Todd, their three children, and their beloved Belgian Malinois dog. Todd and Sheila recently moved the family to Switzerland, from Atlanta, Georgia (USA), and are thoroughly enjoying the abundance of outdoor activities, friendly people, and beautiful sights that Switzerland has to offer. Their two youngest kids are heavily involved in soccer (football for the Europeans), and their oldest comes home to Switzerland in between her university studies in the USA. While in the USA, Sheila also liked to volunteer her time working with children, as well as with her local Chamber of Commerce.
