What Caused the WellLife Network Data Breach?

The WellLife Network data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, WellLife Network’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. WellLife Network also posted a notice on its website discussing the incident.

According to these sources, on September 7, 2023, WellLife Network detected suspicious activity within its IT network. In response, WellLife Network launched an investigation with the help of third-party data security experts. Ultimately, this investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed the company’s computer network between August 26, 2023 and September 7, 2023. It was later determined that some of the files that were compromised contained confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, WellLife Network reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, date of birth, birth or marriage certificate, Social Security number, driver's license number, passport number, student ID number, medical information, health insurance information, Medicare/Medicaid ID, electronic signature, maiden name, and financial information.

On August 29, 2024, WellLife Network sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
