  • Washington AG Bob Ferguson’s sponsored legislation to create an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force passed both houses of the state legislature, receiving bipartisan support.
  • Senate Bill 5838 creates a task force of industry representatives, civil liberties groups, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to discuss AI risks and benefits and make recommendations to the Legislature.
  • SB 5838 is headed to Governor Jay Inslee for his signature. If Governor Inslee signs the bill, Washington would join four other states (Colorado, Illinois, Vermont, and Virginia) in creating a task force or commission to study AI. At least 25 states have introduced legislation relating to AI.
