CPUC adopts action plan to facilitate 'forward-thinking' distributed energy resources policy

The California Public Utilities Commission has adopted a new plan that will serve as a roadmap for shaping the future of distributed energy resources (DER), including rooftop solar and energy storage, in California. Designed to improve coordination across areas such as grid planning, load flexibility, and customer programs, the plan has been published in anticipation of a high-DER future in the state.
Renewables 'the new baseload' by 2030 but 'more ambitious acceleration needed': McKinsey

Renewables are swiftly jockeying forward to become the "new baseload" of the world's energy system, forecast to make up half of the power mix by 2030 and 85% by mid-century, according to McKinsey & Company's latest annual sector report. But the consultancy cautions that while the energy transition continues to gear up, with oil demand expected to peak as early as 2025, current government commitments are on track to lead to global heating exceeding 1.7°C by 2100, significantly higher than the targets set by the Paris Agreement.

$1.9 billion financing secured for 'milestone' Nevada solar-plus-storage project

Debt and equity financing worth $1.9 billion has been closed for Gemini, one of the nation's largest single-site solar-plus-storage power plants to date. Investment manager Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and project developer Primergy announced on Tuesday that the deal has been clinched for Gemini, which combines 966 MW of solar PV with 380 MW/1,416 MWh of battery storage, set for construction in Clark County, Nevada.
Catalyze, Stream Realty to co-develop 450 MW of solar, storage

Catalyze last Friday announced a collaboration with Stream Realty Partners under which they could deploy more than 450 MW of solar and battery storage capacity at the real estate firm's industrial sites. The partners are initially considering 42 properties across the U.S., including in California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
PacifiCorp files with FERC to study three pumped storage projects in Utah

FERC has issued notices of three preliminary permit applications accepted for filing from PacifiCorp, for three pumped storage projects in Utah. The three projects are: Barn Canyon Pumped Storage Project (300 MW); Long Ridge Pumped Storage Project (500 MW); and Rock Canyon Pumped Storage Project (500 MW).
San Jose mayor again pushes for energy independence with support of Google microgrid

The San Jose City Council voted last week to take the next step in reviewing Google's proposal to build a microgrid as part of an 81-acre mixed-use development in the city. The microgrid would serve all properties in the development except for certain residences and Phase 1 buildings. Designed to share power between the buildings, the microgrid would include a minimum of 7.8 MW of solar as well as energy storage.
